In a time when a lot of medical research focus is dedicated to vaccines, Getinge is launching a new, holistic system approach for preparation of multi-use bioreactors from Applikon, which was acquired by the Swedish medtech company in 2020.
The end-to-end approach includes dismantling of the bioreactor, automated washing using Getinge’s purpose-built wash rack, followed by an integrated sterilization process enabling three different types of loads in one cycle.
The Getinge-Applikon bioreactor preparation solution is designed to ensure a validated outcome while increasing laboratory throughput. The process can also improve staff safety by removing potential repetitive motions and exposure to harmful substances related to manual procedures. This is the first major result of the combined strengths of the two companies since the world-leading bioreactor developer and supplier became part of Getinge.
“We are very pleased to offer this optimized and cost effective solution for bioreactor preparation in a time when a lot of research focus is dedicated to vaccine development and production,” says Harald Castler, President Life Science at Getinge. Applikon multi-use bioreactors are used in academic, government and biopharmaceutical laboratories for benchtop research.
“Combining the Applikon bioreactors with Getinge’s cleaning and sterilization expertise offers laboratories a complete solution, which returns a clean bioreactor to production as a pre-validated component in a highly regulated industry,” says Erik Kakes, Director Marketing & Sales Applikon at Getinge. “This is an excellent example of how joining the forces of two industry leaders paves the way for innovative solutions that help laboratories around the world improve their performance,” says Harald Castler.
